loosing USB connection

Robert-Poelzl

Question

Hello at all,

Can anybody tell me what can be the reason for the USB error - see the attached image:

This problem is getting more and more for the last 5-6  month ...

Im using Win7 64bit

and the usb connection is with a 1.8m cable to PC.

long time everything was fine and this error never appeared.

Are the "USB 3" cables better then normaly USB2 cables?

And the second question: i allways have to power on the mount before windows is starting.

if i switch on the mount after windows - i will allways get the error  that mount is not to find ..."and autoslew is starting in sim mode".

This is no big problem but it is not fine for remote wake up....

Thanks for help.

Robert

Hi Robert,

When I started to use my ASA DDM85 (~4 years ago), I often had a similar issue like yours (nearly every time I used it). I don't know where it come from.

I quickly discovered that it does not happen if I don't switch off the mount after using it. With Autoslew, I stop the motors and the fans anyway.

I now only switch off the mount when I have some cleaning to do in my observatory, and only for the time of the cleaning.

Never saw this issue again. :)

Hope this helps.

Bernard

USB 3 cables are not better than USB 2 cables in a USB 2 system - which the DDM 85 is. You are better off with the highest quality USB 2 cables you can find. USB 3 cables have separate wires for USB 3 and USB 2 connections.

Hello everyone,

I need help !!

For some month i have troubles with (i think so) USB connection problems... see the toppics above)

Now i can describe the problem a little bit better.

In the logfile there i can find this:

01:59:56.548: readInt32 data read error  2x. Received error# from ftdxx.dll was 5
01:59:56.571: Now trying ResetDevice, this returned  4
01:59:56.612: readInt32 after ResetDevice still not working, returned error#  5
01:59:56.682: Now trying FTDI CyclePort, this returned  4
02:00:08.121: readInt32 after CyclePort still not working, returned error Nr.  4096

The whole file (without the 1000 rows where are no problems) is attached.

Im not so a hero in this case.

  • So means that i have problem with connection? ( im using win7 64bit - an expensive 2 Meter USB cable dirct to the plug of Pc)
  • Can it be a softwareproblem - so i couldt install Autoslew new ....
  • Or is this a windows problem?

THANKS if somebody can help me.

Robert
