VdB 18,LDN 1434,LBN 720,LBN 721 (Perseus)
As Greek mythology told us: ....: "So it is that Perseus found the cave of the three Graeae women. The Graeae shared a single eye for all three of them which they constantly fought over..:". Perseus took it.
vdB 18 seems to be a deep , fix eye ,looking impassive....
Sidney van den Bergh's comprehensive catalog of galactic reflection nebulae, published in 1966, contains 158 entries representing nebulosity around BD- and CD-type stars north of -33d and as identified in both red and blue Palomar Sky Survey prints. These entries represent diffuse reflection nebulae which are illuminated by one or more background stars and, in other instances, by the integrated light of the Milky Way.vdB 18 is catalogued as Type II (star outside the nebulosity) and Surface brightness F (Faint). This nebula is rarely imaged (I can´t find any image.. just some widefield ones)..and never detailed. The central star is V496 Per -- Variable Star of alpha2 CVn type. The nebula is surrounded by dust ... dust everywhere from the Lynds Dark nebula LDN 1434 and Lynd´s Bright nebulas LBN 720 and 721.A dozen of galaxies emerge between dust.vdB 18 seems to be an open eye
The eye of Perseus.
