  1. Hello Astrograph,

Thank you for your 'inside' insight. I would really appreciate if I could get my hands on an user manual which is written from experience in understandable English. Especialy about the new features and changes in the beta versions. No explanations whatsoever from ASA's side which makes it very hard to work with. Apparantly we just have to guess how it works.

The fact that someone comes up with an original ASA document, nobody else heard of, really tells the story...

Well, I hope you stay aboard and keep us updated. Thanks again.

    Best regards,

    Waldemar

    Well,

P.Keller posted the updated Sequence doc  (in the 'old' Yahoo user group, if I remember correctly), when he made the  beta-version accessible for us beta-testers. I downloaded it immediately, knowing that links have a tendency to disappear. Glad that I can share it now again with the community.

    Best regards,

    Gerhard

  2. Hi Daniel,

With the beta versions of Autoslew and Sequence you can configure a fully automatic run, including MLPT and autofocusing. The last versions run very stable with my configuration, and I run automatized now for almost two years.

    Best regards,

    Gerhard

  3. Many thanks - I am now a beta tester!

    A few questions:

Can someone remind me which files I need to keep so I don't lose my configuration?

If I upgrade Autoslew will I need to do a new pointing model or will it use the old one?

Can I upgrade only Autoslew? I seldom use Sequence other than to do pointing models.

Sorry to ask these questions but it is about 3 years since I upgraded Autoslew. :)

    Hi George,

All your personal Autoslew .ini-files are kept under the ProgramData folder and are not touched by uininstalling/upgrading. Just uninstall you old version and install the new one. You will be asked if Autoslew was already running on your system, by choosing "yes" everything should be fine for you.

I also would upgade Sequence for consistency reasons. You should check out all its new features, I'm using it for automatization of an all night run now, and it works great for me.

    Best regards,

    Gerhard

  4. I can't speak for the DDM60, but my DDM85 never has a problem with condensation. The motors and electronics inside seem to generate enough heat to keep the housing dry.

I observe sever condensation only on the counterweights+shaft and on the telescope tube.

    Gerhard

  5. Hi Tim,

    Regarding your questions:

@ 1: You can make your new pointing file with the old configuration active, Autoslew is aware of that.

@ 2: Simply solve your new autopointing file as usual and save it with the option 'use now, save and use on next start'

Sequence never crashed on me when taking autopointing exposures, neither with my local setup nor with the remote setup, which is similar to yours. Maybe the current Beta versions perform better for you.

    Best regards,

    Gerhard

  6. Mark, thank you very much for reminding me that there are still a few nice objects in the sky which are only accessible by us northerners ;)

Reduces a bit my envy when thinking about southern skies ...

    Best regards,

    Gerhard

  7. Hi Antonio,

A very interesting area in the sky. I'm sure it takes some dedication and a really dark sky to show it in this quality.

Very nice processing and a great idea to show it in context with the prehistoric painting.

    Best regards,

    Gerhard

  8. Hi Pavel,

The pattern could be generated by an obstruction. Have you ever done an analysis with a strongly defocussed star? If you see more than the shadow of the secondary and the spiders, then this additional item could be the source of the pattern. Looking at the image of your setup, the pickup prism of the off-axis guider could very well be the origin of an additional obstruction.

  9. Hi,

This beautiful spiral galaxy is way to low for imaging from European latitudes, so I placed it on my list for Namibia:

      Large and larger versions.

Also note the many background galaxies.

    Gerhard

  10. Thank you, Antonio.

Actually, it was 1h L and 3x20min RGB, so in total 2hrs - enough to get all the details and a smooth background.

    Best regards,

    Gerhard

  11. Hi Lukas,

Guiding is done with an off-axis guider. The corrector/flattener illuminates a 80mm circle, so there is enough space for a pick-up prism.

    Best regards,

    Gerhard
