  1. Hi George,

I think it is aprox.1,5 -2 years ago that I have the same problem as you. The currents in DE rises and end up with a possitioning error.

I send the mount back to ASA and in deed there was something damaged within the DE-axis. In the same step I got the last electronic update. I never got any details about the failure, but I think it will be the best to contact ASA and send the mount to them before you waist your time in searching the failure.

    Best regards

    Thomas

  2. Hello prefetch, Hello Robert,

you can check this easily if you:

    - take a e.g. 5sec frame in maximdl

    - platesolve it

    - choose in observatory/telescope "image center from pinpoint" and "sync" in maxim

    - then open sequence and sync

    - in the status bar you see the delta in both axis

Because the telescope didn't move it should be the same but there is always a delta. And if I sync in sequence thesky6 shows an offset from the star but the star is dead center on the chip, so the sync/platesolve result in maxim seems to be better.

  3. Hi,

my experience is that plate solving in Sequence will perform as good as in MaximDL but both solve worse compared with the solving directly in PinPoint.  Frames that failed in Maxim or sequence I was able to solve in PinPoint.

The problem I have also, is that the result in Sequence shows an offset/delta to the result in Maxim. For the same frame!

And the result in maxim is right when I compare the position in the thesky6 ore MaximDL itself.

First I thought it is a problem with jnow and j2000 but the offset is different.

Anyone who have the same problem or have an explantion for this?

  4. Hi Group,

could anybody explain me what makes the difference between the two sync methods?

When I uses maximdl and make a sync with platesolving (target coordinates  are on JNow) and after taht I switch to sequence and made there a sync, I always have a difference.

Is this caused by different epochs in sollving the image or something else?

In maximdl I always use epoch JNow.

Its not a problem because pointing an d tracking are working very well but I like to know whats going on there.

    Thanks and kind regards

    Thomas

  5. Hi Christian,

thanks for keeping us informed. Very interessting. I have recognized very similiar also.

But one question, when you normally do a PA with three stars, you will be asked if you want to delete the pointing (the window which not appear this time) afterwards. If you say yes, do you have ever looked at "show corrections"?

When I have done so, there are still a few numbers in there. When I used "clear and reset config" its all set to zero. Do you know what is the difference in the two ways?

  6. Hi Group,

since a two weeks I have a new auto guider. A ALCCD5L-IIm also known as QHY5L-IImono.

Before that I used my old versta webcam with b/W-chip. I just change the the guider camera. But know dithering won't work for me.

I use MaximDL with my DDM60pro. The ALCCD is setup as a ascom camera. Also guiding works fine, but I can't dither with it.

If I used Dithering via mount without guiding I see the autoslew movement and all is okay. But when I want to guide and use Dithering via guider the the mount will get the impulse for dithering (I see in the guidegraph (the autoslew movementbox won't appear) but the guider will track on the old postion again and force the mount back.

The autoguider output is set to astroptik telescpoe server.

In the past all works fine, whats going wrong now? Any suggestions?

    Thanks Thomas

  7. After executing the "Move Star Now" command, the star moved from the center of the BackYardEOS window to just within the window limit.  I then tried to move the star back to center with the manual controls.  I confirmed the star image was "live, yet when using the applicable dec and ra knobs, the star did not move.  I would greatly appreciate a step-by-step set of instructions (I know it should be obvious to me, but I don't want to break or bend something out of frustration or stupidity, both of which are my frequent companions when it comes to observing and imaging.) regarding the proper technique/procedure.  Thanks in advance.

     Hi ...

if you have exuted the move star now command you havte to center the the star with the mount azimuth and pole height knobs and not with autoslew or any other software.

  8. Hi Group,

I'm looking for a small USB Hub besaue the three ports of my DDM60pro are not enough. I will mount it near the other one.

It should be an active one, in best case with 12V, but 5V is possible and the most import thing: reliable, reliable, reliable :-)

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks and best regards

    Thomas

  9. Hi,

That's interesting. I received my DDM60Pro earlier this year. It came with an EA (Elektro-Automatik) 300W power supply capable of supplying 21A. It only weighs 1.75 Kg.

    Ian

    Thanks Ian.

nice power supply, and also light weight.

My DDM60pro is one of the early ones. At this early stage mine Voltcraft was an recommendation of ASA.

  10. Hi Group,

maybe something interessing for you. Normally I use the voltcraft 10A power supply wich ASA offered for my DDM60pro.

After the last two star partys I think about, how can I reduced weight of my equipment?

The Voltcraft weight something around 6kg.

So I recognized the power supply of my sons xbox, wich has 12V and 135W.

So I bought an used one on ebay. Of course I don't take the one of my sons xbox, he will has been killing me ;-), and give it a try.

I take one with 12V and 14,6A from one of the older xboxes. All I have to do is, to cut the orignal connector and replaced it with a pair of the banana plugs (4mm) and connected the 5V parts to switch it on.

I have tested it right until now for approx.7 hours without  any problems. All seems to be fine, also slewing with full speed or wind gusts.

It weights only 1kg and is much smaller than the other one. So I think I have found a very low priced and light weight alternative for my mount.

  11. Hi group,

answering another question in a previous thread I remember an paper which said, that if I use sequence I've to disconnect maximdl to prevent trouble with  the right epoch or coordinates for Jnow.

    Is this still a problem?

I always disconnect maxim but it would be more convenient if it can still hold the connection to maxim AND sequence.

  12. Hi Michael,

Gerhard  is right when he said, you have to do a calibration (observatory - telescope - center on image -calibrate - use pinpoint) after that you can point on every image first with a left, than with a right mouse click and choose "point telescope here".

You don't have to use pinpoint again.
