    NGC5466

After shooting most of the bright globulars accessible from my location at this time of year, I have started to image some of the dimmer, more sparse GCs. NGC5466 is very loose, and contains lots of blue stars. Its age is more than 13.5 billion years. There are many galaxies in the field too. Enjoy. http://astrodoc.ca/ngc5466-globular-cluster/ Clear skies, Ron
  2. Not the splashiest image I have ever produced, but maybe the most thought provoking. The light had to travel more than a billion years to my sensor to produce this shot. My furthest target to date... http://astrodoc.ca/abell-2065-galaxy-cluster/ Clear skies, Ron

    Omega Centauri

Great image, Mark/ Well resolved right to the core. Clear skies, Ron

    NGC4517

Another fine Virgo cluster galaxy... http://astrodoc.ca/ngc4517-spiral-galaxy/ Clear skies, Ron
  5. M108 is pretty cool, since it shows so much detail and colour variation. But I was pleasantly surprised by the large number of tiny galaxies throughout this field. Enjoy. http://astrodoc.ca/m108-barred-spiral-galaxy/ Clear skies, Ron
  6. The clear weather in my patch of Ontario continues! This is M100, with many other galaxies in the field. Enjoy! http://astrodoc.ca/m100-spiral-galaxy/ Clear skies, Ron

    Hickson 44

I have had an unusually run of clear, moonless skies, which I have been taking advantage of to shoot various spring galaxies. This is Hickson 44, the first completed of four images I have been working on the last month or so http://astrodoc.ca/hickson-44-galaxy-group/ Clear skies, Ron
  8. I learned yesterday that my M45 image is on the cover of the 20th anniversary edition of SkyNews Magazine (May/June 2015). When I was just starting in astrophotography, I aspired to take photos like the amazing ones I saw in SkyNews and other magazines. To now have one of my images on the SkyNews 20th anniversary cover is a real honour. The magazine also printed my image of Orion's sword. These images (other than the magazine cover) have been posted to this forum before, but here are the links: M45: http://astrodoc.ca/m45-pleiades/ Orion's sword: http://astrodoc.ca/orions-sword/ Cover: http://astrodoc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/SkyNewsCoverM45May2015-e1428352897142.jpg I am patiently working on a few galaxies (Hickson 44, M108 and the M100 group) but the weather has been dismal, and the moon has been bright for the last 10 days. I hope to be able to finish them soon, with the moon now waning. Just need the clouds to move on... Thanks for looking. Clear skies, Ron

    NGC2403

I imaged this on clear nights in February and March. Total integration time is 15.5 hours. Complete processing details are with the image: http://astrodoc.ca/ngc2403/ Clear skies, Ron

    NGC 3603/3576

Very Nice Mark! clear skies, Ron
  11. This image was well over a month in the making - mostly during the coldest February on record. I can't shoot the "real" Trifid from my observatory due to trees and observatory walls, but its northern cousin is accessible to me. Enjoy! http://astrodoc.ca/ngc1579-the-northern-trifid-nebula/ Clear skies, Ron
  12. My image of the western Veil Nebula and Pickering's Triangle is today's Amateur Astronomy Picture of the Day. I am not sure who selects the images or what the criteria are, but there are some nice images among those selected previously. The image, details and a link to the AAPODx2 site are here: http://astrodoc.ca/ngc6960-western-veil-nebula-and-pickerings-triangle/ Clear skies, Ron
  13. After three months of an hour here; 40 minutes there, I finally got enough data to work with on M109. Tough little guy to process. Image and details here: http://astrodoc.ca/m109-barred-spiral-galaxy/ Clear skies to all, Ron

    Eagle Nebula

The weather continues to be terrible for imaging. -27C overnight tonight, windy, and a lot of snow on my observatory roof. More time for working on image processing I guess... Here's the Eagle Nebula. 2012 data with 2015 techniques. http://astrodoc.ca/m16-the-eagle-nebula/ Clear skies, Ron

    M15

This image of M15 was acquired in July 2012 and was published a couple of times. However, I always thought I could do a better job with the processing. I did most of the work on this version while travelling home from the Winter Star Party yesterday, and completed it this morning. Enjoy. Note the small galaxy on the left edge near the top. http://astrodoc.ca/m15/ Thanks to those of you who have provided feedback on my various images, in this forum and via comments at astrodoc.ca. I am always trying to learn. Clear skies, Ron
  16. The Perseus Galaxy Cluster is, not surprisingly, located in Perseus. This image captures hundreds of the cluster’s members, including Perseus A, which is the right-most of the large pair in the centre. Perseus A, also known as NGC1275, lies near the centre of the galaxy cluster, and is 237 million light years away. It is a radio galaxy, emitting strongly in the radio frequency. The centre of the galaxy may contain a supermassive black hole with a mass more than 340 million times the mass of the Sun. That is BIG. Image as well as acquisition and processing details are here: http://astrodoc.ca/abell-246-the-perseus-galaxy-cluster/ Clear skies, Ron
  17. The Crescent Nebula has long been one of my favourites, but I have always found it challenging to get a good result on it. This data is from June 2013, processed using various techniques learned recently. Enjoy! http://astrodoc.ca/ngc6888-the-crescent-nebula/ Clear skies, Ron

    Sh2-112

I will be at the Winter Star Party, and will be giving a PixInsight talk on Tuesday and a workshop Wednesday. I will not be bringing any telescope. My ASA is in my observatory, and there will be many fine telescopes to look through at WSP. I will probably bring my binoculars Clear skies, Ron
  19. This image shows both Sh2-101 and Cygnus-X1 X-ray source. Enjoy! http://astrodoc.ca/sh2-101-tulip-nebula/ Clear skies, Ron

    Sh2-112

I feel like this needs more data, which I will try to acquire in the summer. Nevertheless, it is a pretty object, which I hope you will enjoy! Image and details here: http://astrodoc.ca/sh2-112/ Clear skies, Ron
  21. Go figure! For the 2nd time in 5 days, one of my pics was selected as online Picture of the Day by Astronomy Magazine. This link has the photo, processing details, and a link to to a image of the Astronomy.com webpage. http://astrodoc.ca/m3-globular-cluster/ Clear skies, Ron

    Orion's Sword

This is one of my favourite fields in the sky, whether to the eye, binoculars, telescope or camera. Complete details with the image here: http://astrodoc.ca/orions-sword/ Clear skies, Ron

    Barnard's E

I I don't often shoot dark nebulae, but I managed to capture Barnard's E: http://astrodoc.ca/barnards-e-dark-nebula/ Clear skies, Ron
