    Pacman Ha

Hello everyone. This is my take on the Pacman, in Ha. Colour version to follow once I finish collecting the RGB data. Details and image: http://astrodoc.ca/ngc281-the-pacman-nebula-h-alpha/ Full resolution version: http://astrodoc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/NGC281-9hr-Ha-Oct-2015.jpg Clear skies, Ron
  2. This is a seldom-imaged portion of the Veil Nebula that lies between the top parts of Pickering's Triangle and the Eastern Veil. It seems to have less of the O3-teal coloured regions than the eastern or western portions of the Veil. Web post with details: http://astrodoc.ca/ngc-6979-the-veil-nebula/ Full res: http://astrodoc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/NGC6979-22hr20m-LHaRGB-Sept-2015.jpg Clear skies, Ron
  3. This objects captured in this image are often overlooked, because they lie very close to the famous Bubble Nebula. http://astrodoc.ca/ngc7538-region/ An annotated image is here: http://astrodoc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/NGC7538-22hr10m-LHaRGB-annotated.jpg Thanks for looking! LDN673

Although the weather was good early in the summer, it took me more than a month to acquire the 11hr10m of data included in this image. http://astrodoc.ca/ldn673-dark-nebula/ Clear skies, Ron
  5. I received word today that my image of the Double Cluster has been published in the Chinese National Astronomy Magazine, September 2015 issue. Full size image, details and a link to the magazine page are all available at http://astrodoc.ca/the-double-cluster/ It is very cool being published in a foreign language publication. They’ve also asked me to write an article about my astrophotography adventures for the October 2015 issue! Clear skies, Ron
  6. Update - This image is Picture of the Week at skynews.ca. A screenshot of the SkyNews post is here: http://astrodoc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/SkyNewsPOW-Sept-4-2015.png Clear skies, Ron
  7. When the Moon is close to full and the sky is so hazy you can see only a few stars, there's nothing to do but pack it in or shoot the Moon. I did both, but not in that order. http://astrodoc.ca/gibbous-moon-september-1-2015/ Clear skies, Ron
  8. I was browsing Astronomy.com and noticed that my image of NGC6503 from May 2015 was the Picture of the Day there on August 26. Thanks to Michael Bakich for choosing this image for the website. I haven't had many galaxy shots featured there (mostly clusters and lunar), so this was a particularly nice surprise. Click on the thumbnail to see a screenshot the Astronomy Magazine webpage. http://astrodoc.ca/ngc6503-dwarf-spiral-galaxy/ Thanks for looking, and thanks for your kind comments on my past posts. Clear skies, Ron
  9. This image shows an unusual yellow reflection nebula, the first I have imaged. Light from the red giant star in the centre is being reflected in our direction by particles of soot and gas behind the star, giving the diffuse yellow glow of vdB 136. The area is surrounded by faint H-alpha emissions and interesting dark lanes too. This patch of sky lies about 2 degrees from the Cygnus the Swan’s brightest star, Deneb. vdB 136 is a around 2510 light years away. http://astrodoc.ca/vdb-136-yellow-reflection-nebula/ Clear skies, Ron

Looks like your new camera is working great!
  11. Thanks to Michael Bakich at Astronomy Magazine for publishing my M107 image in the October 2015 issue. That makes 3 issues in a row (August, Sept, Oct)! Click on the the thumbnail at the link below to see the magazine page. Nice to also see Warren A. Keller's great shot of NGC1398 on the same page. Congrats Warren! http://astrodoc.ca/m107-globular-cluster/ Clear skies, Ron Brecher
  12. Thanks to Jeff Johnson for letting me know about my Moon image being today's Pic of the Day at Astronomy.com. http://astrodoc.ca/gibbous-moon-october-4-2014/ http://astrodoc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Astronomy-POD-August-19-2015.png Clear skies, Ron

    IC5068

I've been noodling around the North America nebula region lately, and have this image of IC5068 to share. I had a nice spell of clear weather with little moonlight, so was able to get 18 hours integration time on it. You'll find colour and mono (Ha) images at the link. http://astrodoc.ca/ic5068-emission-nebula/ Clear skies, Ron
  14. This is the "Central America" portion of the North America nebula, NGC7000. I hope you enjoy it Complete acquisition and processing details are with the image here: http://astrodoc.ca/southern-ngc7000-the-cygnus-wall/ Clear skies, Ron
  15. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! My website, astrodoc.ca, has had its 100,000th hit, after only 16 months. The website was viewed by more than 30,000 unique visitors from around the world. I sincerely hope you have enjoyed the website, and thanks you for your emails, and social media likes, tweets, comments, shares, tags… After the home page, the most popular hits over the year, in case you want to check them out, were these: astrodoc.ca/m101-the-pinwheel-galaxy/ astrodoc.ca/deep-sky-image-processing-workflow/ astrodoc.ca/orions-sword/ And another clear sky on tap for tonight, so more images are on the way! A special shout out to the print and online magazines and journals (and their editors) who have shared my images more widely than I ever could have on my own. I appreciate it. Clear skies, Ron
  16. I learned today that my image of Orion's Sword won the Deep Sky High Resolution category in SkyNews Magazine's 13th annual Photo of the Week competition. The prize is a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer mount and equatorial wedge: http://ca.skywatcher.com/_english/02_mounts/02_detail.php?sid=68 Thanks to the editors of SkyNews magazine for this honour. Now I will need to go out and buy a DSLR! To see the magazine page announcing the win and the prize click the thumbnail on my web post: http://astrodoc.ca/orions-sword/ Clear skies, Ron
  17. Beautiful image. I must shoot it myself!
  18. NGC6883 is listed as an open cluster, but to me the vast curtains of nebulae surrounding the cluster are much more interesting. The nebula is the eastern part of LBN182, but I couldn’t find much information about it. Much of the nebulosity in this area in Cygnus is about 7,500 light years away, so this nebulosity also likely lies at a similar distance. There seems to be much more written about the open closer of 30 or so stars near the centre of this image, a cluster which I find very difficult to discern because of the densely packed field of Milky Way stars. I love the richness and variety of star colours in this image which including a pinkish star near the upper left of this image (it was also pink in the RGB image without Ha). Also, at bottom left of centre is a small reflection nebula. The nebula is identified as GN20.10.7, but I found no information about its properties or distance. http://astrodoc.ca/ngc6883-open-cluster-with-nebula-colour/ Clear skies, Ron
  19. Looks like the collimation is perfect! Great image. I will be cleaning and recommitting when the moon becomes full in a few days... Clear skies, Ron
  20. I just received my September 2015 edition of Astronomy and was happy to see -- but just barely -- my image of NGC6366 on page 73. I say "just barely" because it is so dim you can hardly see it. Click on the thumbnail here to see the magazine page: http://astrodoc.ca/ngc6366-globular-cluster/ Thanks to the editors for sharing my work through Astronomy magazine. Clear skies, Ron

    Sh2-115

This image shows pretty Sh2-115 and part of Sh2-116 on the left. I couldn't quite get Sh2-71 in the field as it was in the corner outside my corrected field. I think this doesn't get imaged much because it is so close to the NA nebula and Cygnus is such a treasure chest of splashy objects. http://astrodoc.ca/sh2-115-emission-nebula-colour/ ar skies, Ron
