  1. Christer, go for it.

Even if ASA would put up their own wiki, who would write the contents? If it's the same guy writing the documentation it will stay empty for a long time...

On the other side, the Wiki you put up is being molded by the community and in my opinion can become very complete in a short amount of time.

And it wouldn't rely on ASA, so no access from them/no blocking/whatever.

  2. I created yesterday a page for 'Common Problems':  http://asauser.cosmonorr.se/index.php?title=Common_Problems

It could be a place to collect that information as George suggested.

I would also recommend to work a bit on the first/main page, maybe giving it a logical approach which would make sense for a fresh owner of a mount, like:

    1) Setup

    2) Quick Start

    3) Common problems

    and so on...

    @Christer: Thanks, I inserted one of Daniel's video's here: http://asauser.cosmonorr.se/index.php?title=Balancing#Example_Video

Seems like the plugin works fine.

@Daniel: The video is nice, but could you (when you find the time) do it with a video capture like you did on the other videos?

  4. I discovered today that the latest version of CCD AutoPilot has an "ASA Slew" option, with the following explanation in the help file:

ASA Slew: When checked, CCDAutoPilot will run whatever application is entered after the mount has slewed to the target either at the beginning of a target session of after crossing the meridian.  This is used for ASA mount training. To enter an application, hit the NavigateButton.png to navigate to the specific application to be run.  If the application requires any arguments to follow the application, enter them manually in the arg space. To clear an entry, simply hit Cancel after hitting NavigateButton.png

    Look here:

    Screenshot_6.jpg

I wonder if there is a new feature around that I don't know about. ASA mount training sounds to me like MLPT...

  5. Daniel,

yes, maybe adding a "Tested Hardware" wiki page would be a nice idea. Could you start on that?

I will have a look at the videos later on as the next days are very busy ones for me (gonna do a big building work in a few weeks and need to finish all the preparations).

Maybe your other ideas could be summarized in some sort of Quick Start tutorial. The single points (like "Manual tune", "Balance" and so on) could link to the respective pages.

EDIT: I added a page with your suggestions here: http://asauser.cosmonorr.se/index.php?title=Quickstart_for_beginners

  6. Regarding the Wiki a question to all users here:

If you have time, could you take some screenshots of your setup, either during setup, imaging or even if you see an error? It would be very useful to have enough screenshots to insert them in the Wiki among tutorials and explanations. There are some nice little programs on the internet which make taking a screenshot a breeze, like "Lightshot".

As far as I see it, if the community takes the screenshots we wouldn't even run against intellectual property of ASA.

    Thanks

  7. Christer,

okay, thanks. I switched back to the normal Wiki editor (no Visual Editor) and it works fine. The images seem to give issues, though. Were you able to use the Visual Editor to edit the pages?

As for the content: I am trying to write down a little bit just to get an idea, and to give an idea to others, on how it might end up. Honestly: I really think this could become a seriously good thing. If everytime an issue gets solved here in the forum the Wiki would also become updated, that would be awesome

EDIT: And Christer, it seems to me that the Email system is also not sending any mails.

  8. Agreed.

What about allowing everybody to register, but only users in a separated user group (let's call them "Editors", or whatever) can edit and add content? And to become an editor, an administrator has to check your status.

Or, easier: Every registration needs to be approved by the admin. Maybe doing a cross-check between the user on the wiki and here on the forum would tell if that user owns an ASA piece of equipment or not...

As for the Wiki Christer set up: First of all, very clean theme, I like it!

Second, the structure: Maybe this should be something that could follow the content? I mean, "Setup" and "Tutorial" would overlap quite a bit. And a "Documents" section, too... I would concentrate more on the topics of every single page/document and then care about the navigation later on as it evolves.
