Hi there, just wondering if anyone happens to have a set of DDM85 metrics that I could use with my 2.7m dome ASCOM setup.  New to dome setup so I'm sort of experimenting at the moment.  As I don't yet have my pier (unforeseen budget complications),  I'm currently working with my Altair Starbase Tri-Pier.  The ASCOM dome setup requires the following:

    Measurement Inches mm
    Total North/South Offset
    Total East/West Offset
    Total Up/Down Offset
    Dome Diameter or
    Dome Radius
    GEM Axis Offset

    Any assistance greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Paul.

    Hi Paul,

I have and DDM85 with a 3m Dome. What do you need exactly? The measures in metric to write in ASCOM Dome or Sequence?

I am only using Autoslew and sequence, no others software since 8 years ago and I don’t have had any problem about this… Well, at the beginning the learning curve was crazy!!

if you want to write me, please feel free to email: simplyluro@gmail.com

    Hello Luis-san,

Again, thank you so much for your advice.

I will do following parallelly based on your advice.

    1. Now I am using one "100V AC" for all devices in my DOME.

In order to split the AC power of the DDM80X-SL out from other devices in my DOME, I will use following external Power Batttery for my DDM85X-SL only.

    2. I will send email on this phenomena to ASA Service as well to get any advice.

Just in case, do you know which email address of ASA Service I should use to send this topics ?

Because in ASA Web site, it seems not so clear for me which email address of the ASA Service has to be used to send this topics.

Thanks in avance and Best Regards,

    Kazuo Horiuchi

    Hello Luis-san,

Thank you so much for your feedback !

Actually I am using following "Switching Power Supply" but I will do that accordingly.

Hello Kazuo-san. Nice pleased to meet you.

It seems a nice Power Supply, but in my opinion, you should find to minimize from all the external devices that can be affected to the right function of the mount. It seems your errors is aleatory factor, so something is happening, because I haven't found any case in this forum, like your case.

And of course, you can contact with ASA service by email, they will reply to you know what's happening better that anyone i this forum.

let's get in touch, we can learn something from your experience.

    Best regards

  5. Hello Kazuo Horiuchi,

I have the same mount than you and after  6 years later I have had any problem about this matter, but it seems very curious.

Have you checked carefully if the power supply is stable during the night?.

Maybe you can check with a tester, saving the paremeters of voltage during all the night to check if in some point the mount have special friction.

Hope you can find out soonest the problem.

    Best regards

My intention is to install an ASA DDM85 in a Pulsar 2.7m dome.  The only means of controlling the dome is via ASCOM.  I have heard some concern about the ASA ASCOM driver.  Should I be worried about this, or is it just scare mongering?

    Kind Regards

    Paul.

    Hello, Deepskyman,

I have been involved in a new personal project... I have installed on my new observatory a dome 3m and after few months testing, I am using the HubDome POTH by ASCOM, and works fine. Using the ASA ASCOM driver, for me no used, because although I put the same parameters than the HubDome POTH by ASCOM doesn't works well, the door never goes to the center window of the axis telescope. I have tried to find manual about how to use properly the dome with Austolew and Sequence, but I couldn`t found anything about this, neither to with the F1 help of Sequence.

So Yes, you have to be a little scare mongering in case you want to use the ASA Driver, but if finally you can find the manual help, please try to share it in this forum.

I wish you all the best,
    Luis Romero

I have a new DDM100 that I am trying (and failing) to balance in RA.

The Autoslew>Servo-Setup>Balance routine works correctly in DEC but fails in RA. The graphical display shows the upper, vertical, red line and, briefly, the yellow bar. The vertical line then moves back to the left. There are no error messages, the RA motor is then switched off and I am forced to restart Autoslew in order to try again.

Is it possible that the total load on the system is too small? My scope (an RH200) is light and audibly "chattered" before I added 25kg of additional weight on the OTA side. Now the system is quiet and vibrates gently. The single counterweight is 12cm from the top of the shaft - so quite close to the DDM100. It feels balanced. I have tried moving the counterweight incrementally to various positions that are then clearly out of balance. Nothing seems to help.

I can't find any logs that help in diagnosing balance issues.

What is the minimum OTA-side load for a DDM100? Or do I have some other issue, not forgetting that am I new to the ASA world and might be doing something stupid?

    All ideas gratefully received.

    Jeremy

    Hello Jeremy,

Nice pleased to meet you in this forum...

I have an DDM85 with incremental encoders (6 years old) and my experience after few telescopes, is that the mount feel more confortable with more medium and high payload than light load, this is true, at least my experience.

The theory payload without instrument of the DDM85 is 65 Kg and currently my setup is around 47 kg (RC16" plus equipments) and I have to say that I don`t have problems with the balance and vibrations, obviously after spent a little time to make a good setup playing with the PID in both axis. You will have to make an automatic balance to find out where the mount feels more confortable, but to start with you should try to reduce the parameters in case your setup is so light.

About you answer, I really don`t know the minimum payload, but I have to say that my first setupr with a telescope with a 25 Kg weight wasn't posible to balance properly, I had to put another telescope and more weight to reach the correct balance.

    Well, this is my experience
I hope it helps to you

Sequence does not seem to know the dome geometry. It controls my ASCOM dome directly but does not have access to the dome radius and other offsets. Most of the time I am taking image of the inside of the dome.

The ASCOM dome Control and POTH uses geometry. If I use ASCOM Dome control or POTH  Sequence never waits for the dome to finsh its slaved slew.

I think this needs a solution.

    Max

    Hello Max,

    How are you?

How did you solve the problem? i have the same one, after man years with an roll off roof observatory y have made a new one, but this time is a dome 3m... I have the same problems using Sequence, the telescope never reach the center of the window, but with Poth always have find the center, the problem is that when I use sequence with MLPT the telescope, never wait to the dome, so it's dificult to make a good MLPT and of couse to hit the target..

I know you did the comments 6 years, ago, so as I understand finally, you've got the solution!

If you have time, i will be glad to hear you!

    Good morning Mr. Ventura,

Thanks for reaching out to me. We have included a way to model 10Micron mounts because they have a "learn mode". I do believe that ASA mount, like Paramounts, have proprietary software. Is this the case? Can you provide me with information if there is a different option that you know of?

    My best regards,

  10. Hello Waldemar,

As I know you have the same mount than mine, DDM85 12 V, thus I understand you want managing everything under PRISM? Including the MLPT, or are you guiding with the second telescope TMB 92?

  12. Antonio! Congratulations for awesome work! Terrific details, with the properly color!

Under my point of view, is one of the best photos I have seen of this field!

    Best regards!!

  13. Hi Antonio,

Awesome photo, have to be really difficult to process this photos as I understand this is a "dark nebula" that need long exposure to get clearly and fine details, but like always you've obtained the best results of this splendid area and unknown structure.

One more time, thank you to sharing with us your images.

    Luis Romero,

  14. Thanks Luis,

I am switching scopes, going from a focal length of 1100 to 2800. I'm a little concerned....

    Hello John,

Don't worry with 2800 you will get stable and moreover if you have a dome, my old telescope it was an GSO 14" f/8 that reach to 2840 mm (Roll-off-Roof) and I got a very good sucess, the only thing is that i always have to removed the first photo of each mlpt session, even when is doing the flip meridian, but for the rest, I haven't had poblem at 2800 mm.

    I wish you the best!!

    Clear skies!

  15. Hello John,

Since I bouth the DDM85XL 3 years ago, I have never guided, this is was the main reason why I've choosen this mount! Now I am waiting my new telescope from the company CFF Telescope, is an RC400 f/8 with native focal 3200 mm. I will tell you if with my next telescope I need to guiding or not, I hope so no!!

    The best
