Hi MarkS, a really nice solution to the lacking solution from ASA that does not take into consideration all of the astrophotographers that have a mobile setup. I don't understand why ASA did not go with that solution that uses common sense. I wonder if the big red wheel is available as a separate purchase when someone orders a new 12N ? Benoit p.s. do you have the 10N or 12N ?

Hi MarkS. is the big red wheel came with your new AAF3 focuser or is it part of your old focuser? Also with your new set up, to remove your camera, do you unscrew something (the big red wheel ? ) or you have to remove the 3 little screws ? I am asking because my planned system will be used in a mobile setup. Thank you Benoit

Hi Christer, one quick question for you, is the adaptor that you used to connect your camera to the Wynne corrector, is the same as the one you had for your old focuser (OK3 or OK3 Z ) or you needed to have a new one made for the new AAF3 focuser?

Just a question like that, I was wondering if anyone has actually done some acquisition of photons with the new AAF3 focuser or you are still trying to figure out how to connect your camera to it ? Maybe someone from the staff at ASA can enlighten us on this one ? Benoit

How can ASA sell a product without documentations? Unless they think this is a game, it does not make any sense

I don't know if anyone from ASA is reading this post but they must realize that there is a severe shortage of information on their online knowledge database. hopefully, they can address this issue soon, I am saddened by this situation , ASA has excellent products but they must come to understand that their Achilles' heel is communications.

hi MarkS, Over the years I came to realize that the perfect sampling is not the ultimate consideration when matching a telescope to a camera. The signal strength and the signal to noise ratio are the key elements, I would rather work with pixel of 9um than 6um (16200) or 5.4um (KAF8300) anytime, also to give an extreme example, have you ever seen a picture taken with an FSQ106 (530mm) and a 16803 that didn't look amazing even if it was highly undersampled ? Being undersampled is way more preferable than being oversampled wich can destroy your end result (very weak signal) , also when undersampled the Drizzle X 2 works like magic under Pixinsight. This is the main reason why I did not consider the 16200 for my upgrade from a KAF8300, might as well do it right and go all the way to the king of sensors , the 16803. Now my only decision left, do I buy a 10N or 12N , many factors to consider here , portability, does anyone here find the 12N a bit big for field operations ? , cost in not a factor for me, the weight of the scope is not critical for the mount ( I have a Paramount MX+) only to carry the scope itself is, if I go with the 12N I will be tempted to say at the 2 available focal lengths, if I go with the 10N the temptation will be strong to also get a 14.5" Dall-Kirkham in the future ( and that is a good thing). At the end, it all come down to decisions, decisions...

hi guys, I was thinking about upgrading my QSI683WSG-8 to a G3-16200 from Moravian but the difference in performance was not really that big, so I decided to go for more money but not that much to a G4-16000EC and I got my OFF-Axis from Sky Meca in France ( the slim model with a tilt corrector inside and only 15mm ) . I am planning on getting either the 10N or the 12N . Here is a picture of the Off-Axis (that will work with the back focus of the ASA Wynne corrector) installed on my FQS.

I did and I got some partial answers but it would be nice and appreciated if they made a section on their website with detailed information on the new focuser.

What ! In 2014 iI was told by ASA that it was impossible for them to make an adaptor less than 10mm for a 12N ( that I was going to buy) and my QSIwsg-8 with Astrodon filters. Where did you have your adaptor made? I have the email from ASA if you want . ps the adaptor was for the Wynne corrector.

Good day , I am almost ready to order a new ASA 10N but I need more information regarding your new AAF 3 Focuser. How does the Wynne corrector attached to it and does it have the big red wheel that the old OK3 and OK3Z focuser had to permit a rotation to frame the target? Also ,I would need a mechanical diagram of the focuser so I can have an adaptor made to fit my custom made off axis made by Sky Meca. Thank you Benoit Gagnon

Hello, I was wondering if someone has some information on the new AAF 3 ASA AutoFocuser. ie what are the advantages over the OK3Z and what would be the price difference between an OK3Z and this new AAF 3 ? Welcome to the Club of customers with problem's with the software for the ASA focuser, the software for the focusers from ASA are far from being robust, they are very sensitive to even the smallest change on your computer. Some people even keep an image file of the operating system when everything works and even that sometimes does not even works. Am I impress with the software and the lack of documentation from ASA, no !

old OK3 or old OK3Z ?

Hi, I’m new here, my name is Benoit Gagnon from Montreal, Quebec, Canada and I just bought a used 12N and I am having tremendous difficulty with the focuser software from ASA. The old owner of the 12N told me it was purchased prior 2010 so I downloaded the software before May 2010 from the ASA web site http://www.astrosysteme.at/eng/dl_focuser.html . To my surprise the instruction are inexistent and the installation of the software is only in German!! I am getting error message left and right regarding the com port, I am not new at computers, I own one since 1986 and I can see that this software from ASA is not something ASA should be proud of. I have tried on my laptop (SONY VAIO running window 7 64 bit ) and I get multiple error message on the software and the comport. I then tried it on my desktop running window 7 64 bit and again I get multiple error messages. I then tried it on my second desktop I have running window 7 64 bit and I still get multiple error messages regarding the com port. Now I am wondering if I got the right software, so I include a picture of my focuser and I was wondering if a good Samaritan could identify it i.e. is it a OK3 or OK3Z and what version is it, because thanks to ASA there is no identification or date on the focuser. Thank you in advance and I hope the ASA experience won’t be like that all the way.
